Broadway Dance Arts was founded in 2000 by Shawn Blasingame. Miss. Shawn has since sold the studio to a former student, Jasmine Tubach. She is a 2015 James Madison Alumni, seasoned and awarded choreographer, as well as a professional modern and contemporary dancer.

Miss. Jasmine grew up taking dance classes from Miss. Shawn. She has been a teacher at BDA since 2015 and is very excited to be the new owner and artistic director. She loves her students and loves sharing dance with the community. Miss. Jasmine has many hopes and dreams for the studio that will all be developed over time.

The BDA mission, as a pillar in the community is to be a studio to give high quality performance opportunities to dancers, singers, and actors. As well as, providing a safe atmosphere for the performers of Williamsburg to call home. Miss. Jasmine states, "The youth need safe places to hangout and constructive ways to express themselves. Broadway Dance Arts is able to provide." Miss. Jasmine believes dance classes teach more than 'just dance' and sees teaching young ones as an honor. "This is my life calling and this will be my legacy. I am thankful to Miss. Shawn for entrusting me with her life's work. I am hopeful for the future." young widowed mother Miss. Jasmine says.

Miss. Shawn's History and the birth of Broadway Dance Arts:

After many years of performing as a professional dancer and choreographer and teaching for other area studios, Miss. Shawn wanted to bring something new to the Williamsburg area. Seeing that most studios catered to the classical areas of dance, Miss. Shawn wanted to bring a studio that would bring more versatile, theatrical and Broadway  styled dance offerings. In addition to this, she wanted a studio that would give more performance opportunities to the students of not only dance, but our singers and actors.

At the time of opening in early 2000's, competition dance was becoming popular and Miss. Shawn was a sought after judge. Aware that competition dance can benefit dancers in many ways and that Williamsburg did not have a competition dance team, she formed the first competition team in Williamsburg.

Twenty-two years later, our competition teams

have been awarded top awards on the National

level from the highest ranking competitions in the

country. These competitions include Starpower,

World Class Talent Experience, Starquest, Access

Broadway and more. Our soloists are commonly

found in the top 10 at all competitions that we

attend.

We look forward to our next season of classes, shows and competitions. We hope that you will become a part of our history.

In 2007, the decision to downsize BDA from our original 4000 square foot studio to our current facility. Miss Shawn felt that this change to a smaller studio would better serve her students to achieve their dance goals, whether just to have fun in a once a week recreational class, or be a serious dance competitor. This downsize would give more personal attention to the students through smaller class sizes, allowing more time for performances, competition team rehearsals and work with private soloists and students.
